This time of year always get's my brain moving. The sun is shining, the weather is getting warmer and seemingly on schedule, my ability to motivate myself to do more becomes easier and easier. As a therapist, I know that - it is very rarely that things happen "out of no where" - which makes me think about the reasons for the seemingly sudden jolt to my energy level?
I tell my clients (and in turn myself) change one thing. When you're feeling stuck, when you're not sure what direction to take - change one thing. No matter how large, or how small - shake up your routine and see where this takes you. Our brains get into patterns of behavior, which influences our patterns of thought, which leads to patterns of feelings (you can read that in reverse and also be reading a true statement, our thoughts, feelings and behaviors are incredibly influential upon each other no matter in what combination, or pattern they're looked at) So shake it up and see what happens.
Take a different route to and from work
Do your grocery shopping on a different day, at a different time
Eliminate the phone use after 6pm
(I give these examples because ALL of these I myself have tried over the last several weeks)
Small shifts to our daily routine can help influence big change in the long run. What do you think is changeable about your day to day?
