Tele-health; how to begin a successful online practice

It’s seeming like we’ll be living in this virtual world for sometime. Whether or not you’ve embraced this change, or have entered some form of tela-health with great concerns - it’s here to stay. The differences between a virtual practice and an in person, face to face, practice are very minimal. While reading the rest of this post, I want you to keep that thought in mind. This blog will focus on the personal connection that is important to make with clients in a virtual space, I’ll address ways we need to be following HIPAA and privacy/confidentiality in a later post.

The Michigan llpc should take the nce NOW

Newly graduated counseling masters students find a supervisor, apply for their LLPC (limited license professional counselor), and start working to gain experience. We’re ALL having to find options for childcare, healthcare, and workspace (often at a moments notice). For us, we’re doing that AND supporting handfuls of others who look to us to have the answers on how to do this best, or better, or hell, how to do it at all.

How do I find an llpc supervisor in michigan?

The first step is to do your research. Do not expect others to know the rules and regulations for what is expected for ethical practice. It has been my experience that knowledge of what is needed for LLPC's to gain full licensure in Michigan is....well, not wide spread. So take some time and read up. Supervision is different from individual psychotherapy sessions.

Michigan LLPC supervision expectations; what to expect during supervision with the michigan clinical supervisor

Before you begin supervision with me, expect to receive several documents to review and sign; one of which is the required supervisory disclosure statement that describes my background and qualifications. Additionally - you’ll receive an outline of what I expect you to learn, develop and practice while holding your LLPC. As an LLPC under my supervision, I expect that you will gain experience in the following:

n the state of Michigan, the LLPC must complete a total of 3,000 hours of post-degree mental health service in not less than a 2 year period. 100 of these hours must be spent face to face with their clinical supervisor. At 1 hour of supervision per week, for approximately 100 weeks, you as an LLPC will spend almost 2 years with your supervisor. Make sure this person is someone you can trust, rely on, and who shares your dedication to the practice of professional counseling.
